BSIDP

BSIDP is the social responsibility initiative of Academia Naturalis and the Garden Route Natural Science Research Facility, with the aim to assist our local community, and particularly the unemployed with a variety of informal skills training and networking opportunities instilling new ideas and creative thinking.

Our Constitution…

  • The integration of public and private corporate social responsibilities through Local Economic Development programmes teaching in-formal skills that are easily converted into entrepreneurship projects and job creation opportunities.
  • To assist local Government, in their Economic Development Programmes and plans for the future. We promote unity with a voice of “Ubuntu” without affiliation to any specific cultural or political group or agenda, striving only to enhance the living standards of all South Africans.

GREEN PROJECTS

In collaboration with “The Green Ticket,” we support their developments and initiatives ranging from growing, drying and packaging high value indigenous herbal and medicinal plants to sales and the market place, thereby creating green-collar jobs locally.

BEEKEEPING AND COLONY MANAGEMENT

Participants are taught how to build their own hives and manage a bee colony.

Quoted: “I am Shamash-resh-ușur, the governor of Suhu and the land of Mari. Bees that collect honey, which none of my ancestors had ever seen or brought into the land of Suhu, I brought down from the mountain of the men of Habha, and made them settle in the orchards of the town 'Gabbari-built-it'. They collect honey and wax, and I know how to melt the honey and wax - and the gardeners know too. Whoever comes in the future, may he ask the old men of the town, (who will say) thus: "They are the buildings of Shamash-resh-ușur, the governor of Suhu, who introduced honey bees into the land of Suhu."
